Beginning in 1998, the County Family Court Judges directed that the Probation Department be responsible for assisting in the filing of family court petitions by the public. In addition, the Department has also been directed to conduct drug / alcohol screening on certain family court petitioners and respondents.
The Probation Department has an agreement with Columbia-Greene Domestic Violence to refer all Family Offense petitioners to their agency. Columbia-Greene Domestic Violence is able to provide direct assistance with petition filing, referral to legal representation and mentoring with the court process. |
